Your organisation is only as strong as your weakest link2 min read

How are you planning on spending 2021? As Covid-19 rates begin to drop, most people are looking forward to a return to normalcy, whether that means trips to the pub, traveling or even just returning to the office. Whatever the case may be, just make sure you spend the rest of the year protecting your business from harmful cyberattacks – rather than putting out cybersecurity fires.

Research from IBM has revealed that the average amount of time it took most organisations to identify a breach and successfully neutralise that cyberthreat was 280 days, which is the majority of a year. Put it another way – a breach discovered today would likely only be fully solved and patched at the end of 2021.

It is no secret that cyberattacks are costly and time-consuming affairs. Businesses are hit not only by the practicalities of securing their data and ensuring that any nefarious actors are expelled from their systems, but also by the inevitable reputational blow that can lead to customer distrust.

Therefore, when considering your organisation’s cybersecurity posture, make sure you have a holistic, all-encompassing view. All organisations have third parties, companies that they outsource certain duties to, from cloud services to suppliers. Unfortunately, these necessary connections are the most common entry point for cyberattackers – Symantec found that attacks originating in a supply chain went up by 78% in 2019.

However, this situation is not as dire as it may seem. There are various tools to help organisations manage their cybersecurity posture, such as CyDesk. CyDesk not only gives ongoing updates on your organisation’s cybersecurity, but also collects and analyses data across your digital footprint, highlighting potential cyberthreats in real-time.

With digital transformation fully underway, the new normal will include cyberattacks. However, with a little help, your organisation can ward off these damaging attacks and data breaches. As we head back into normal life, make sure you spend your year on top of your organisation’s cybersecurity.
